What's the best macaroon in London (french style)?

If you could only have one more french-style macaroon for the rest of your life, where would you go in London?

depending on where you are, some of the best are at a small french patisserie in clapham common called, of all things: macaroon

very, very good. just the right texture too.

I tried Macaroon in Clapham a while ago and found it variable, but even considering the best of the bunch that I tried, I'd still pick Laduree's over theirs easily. Not that Laduree's my absolute favourite, but it's the best I've had here so far, with perhaps one or two of La Maison du Chocolat's flavours.

I found that Laduree's London macarons taste different. The meringue part is harder, and the fillings, at any rate for the pistachio, vanilla and rose ones, seemed to have less flavour. Odd.

Macarons, they're macarons! I know you know that, but calling them macaroons is sacrilege IMO. Another vote for Laduree.

Ladurée, hands down! Can't go buy Burlington Arcade without buying one, or two, or ten. My favourite flavours there are salted caramel and raspberry.

The hot chocolate there is also unmissable, but very intense. Only for real chocoholics.

Agree about the hot chocolate; I had a difficult time even finishing a small hot chocolate, it's so rich! More like pudding than hot chocolate. Can't wait to get another one.

Try STILES bakery no. 6 Strutton Ground.Bought two macaroon biscuits with a cherry on top for 75 pence each. Simply lovely chewy almond flavoured treats. They also have a selection of french sticks with a variety of different fillings. The prices at this bakery are unbelievably reasonable. A french stick with pastrami and lettuce will set you back about £1.60 and a raisin danish 65p.
I live and work in London: take it from me, this place is truly value for money!! No more Subway,Pret a manger,or Mcdonalds.I walk from my place of work in Trafalgar Sq to this bakery located on a side street close to New Scotland yard on Victoria st.Look for the small street market that identifies Strutton Ground.Takes me 15 minutes but well worth the walk. Can't recommend this place enough.
If you prefer some fish and chips.Try the chippy at the lower end of the street. The place is always busy not just lunch times, testimony to the good grub served there.A small bag of chips £1.40 a large bag £2.00, cod and chips about £6.75.Portions are always enough to satisfy the most famished.Hope you manage to visit. You will not be disappointed

I think the original poster was searching for the French macaroons, but thanks so much for mentioning Stiles. My husband loves those you talked about, and our local bakery that made good ones has closed up shop. I will definitely make a trip to Strutton Ground. The chippy sounds darn good, too!

Laduree have got to be the best in London, the passion fruit and chocolate one they developed for Easter is amazing and seems to have made it into their permanent range.
i am off there shortly with my 4 year old daughter who thinks their Harrods stores is princess heaven.

I did a taste-test one weekend...Yauatcha, Laduree, Paul. Paul lost big time...the macaroons disintegrated within hours. Yauatcha and Laduree were really close, taste-wise. I am actually going to Yauatcha later today and will report back.

I would go to St. Pancras and get on the Eurostar to Paris. Just kidding. If you scroll down, there was some talk the other day about Ladurée and some other places that sell macaroons in London.

The macarons at La Maison du Chocolat are very good, but are largely chocolate based.

My aunt lived one block from La Maison du... but in NYC. Those were the days..... I still love their chocolate but rarely indulge over here. I never tried their macaroons, but if I'm near Piccadilly one day, I'll get a few. I'm off to Amsterdam tomorrow - two chocolate shops on my list of places to investigate.
