New Chef at the Red Room - Pgh
I think it's a good thing for the East End dining scene, as Sousa is kind of a celebrity chef in PGH. I've never eaten at Red Room, but I've been for drinks a few times and I love the atmosphere. From the article, it sounds like Red Room will be expanding the lounge section and offering a new menu there, which sounds promising. It should also bring some publicity to Red Room and to the area, which is a good thing. Lots of good culinary things happening there - Pizza Sola just opened, and there's a fancy Chinese restaurant in the works for Eastside. It's not hard to picture it becoming the new "foodie" area... especially given the proximity to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.
I never ate at Alchemy, but I kind of dig what he was doing there... I also can see why it wasn't completely popular at at downtown PGH hotel restaurant. It will be interesting to see how much "science" he incorporates into the new menu at Red Room.
