Canadian Hound will be staying near MOMA and looking for a great kick off to my first week in NY. There will be 4 dinning after hours of travel, looking for something casual and close to where we are staying, to enjoy a late night meal and good wine.
Thanks for the rec's
I have spend many an hour pouring over all the the bouogh's and best of rec's .. and i am really looking forward to a week of great food!
If you're staying near MOMA you should probably repost with "midtown" as your neighborhood. We Manhattanites think of the UES as something from the 70's up.
MOMA is MOMA, not the Met. So, assuming we are talking MOMA, I like China Grill, and think it fits your description, except not sure about the good wine. It is casual, and close to where you are staying. Food is good, and all things are shareable, so a group of 4 is great for it. You are also near 2 of my favorites, but wouldn't go for your first night, Gordon Ramsay at the London, and Aquavit. You could try Maze by Gordon Ramsay for a more casual meal. Check online and you will find their menu and can decide.
There is no "83 and 4 East." It's either E. 83rd or E. 84th, or if you are on an avenue block, you can be between 83rd & 84th. Starting on 5th Av. and going east, the avenues are Madison, Park, Lex, 3rd, 2nd, & 1st. That is the UES, not Midtown, and it is near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is on 5th, near 81st. MoMA is in Midtown, on W. 54th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs.
So, now that we have the geography lesson squared away.... It sounds as though you are staying in the E. 80's, which is the UES.
As far as where to eat and drink in that area, you might consider The Bar @ Etats-Unis, on E. 81st St., b/t 2nd & 3rd Avs. They serve until midnight. I have not been there, but I've heard good things about it. Hopefully, other Hounds who have been there will chime in and comment.
