Email poster when reply is added

Hi. A suggestion. Most other first-rate forum websites will send an email to alert the original posting person that there is a reply to their issue. This is so helpful and really makes sense to me. I think it would be a great addition to this website. I haven't received any such emails from here - but if you already do that, thanks.

This is a must have option on any respectable forum board. For any people who don't want the e-mails, they can just disable it under their account settings. People lead busy lives and these notifications help posts stay current. Please implement as an option!

I'd like to put in a vote for this one as well. I like the "my chow" option, but if i've lagged on any site for a few days, sometimes those "you have a reply" e-mails bring me back to the site. I use this optional feature on a few other boards I post on, and it brings me to those sites more often.

On a related note...those sites that DO have this option, when you click on the link within the e-mail, it brings you directly to the point in the thread wher you'd last left off, and you can start reading there. In other words you don't have to scroll through posts and posts and posts trying to find where you last left off, or where your original post was. I wish CH did this. In some of those 100 + post threads, it's hard to find your place.

It's an optional thing, so I don't see what the problem would be in bringing it here...either click "notify me when a reply is posted" or leave the box empty and therefore get no e-mails.

We used to have that as an optional feature on the boards -- and still do the CHOW articles -- but it was turned off because of some technical difficulties and has never been fixed.

Thanks for your reply, J. Now, the question is - since it's not been fixed, is there enough call to put it back in order? Don't you think it's a useful service? I can give you a reason too - say someone posts a question and wants an answer. There's no way to let the original poster know it's up there unless they check back incessantly - and that wastes time. I'd like to know what you think.

I have no updates, sorry. It's one of many things on the giant list of many things that need to be done.

hmm...i'd guess that a lot of people around these parts do check back incessantly and waste loads of time here at baseline! the my Chow page works perfectly well for me.

I really, really want it back. I used to use it and I couldn't figure out how to do it again. I just don't have time to check the boards every day, but don't want to miss any responses to my posts.

can't you just check "my posts" under "my chow" ? When it works ;-)....or am I missing something?

And, you can also check threads that you've marked as favorites to see if there is something new. Another option is to do a search user:"user name", and sort by most recent.

Jfood's gotta disagree with that one J. He gets so many emails already that adding to that in-box is not a positive event.

jfood thinks the "new" under My Chow serves this issue perfectly from this first-rate+ forum.
