Manhattan Sports Bar to see the Yankees??

  • 9

Hello all

A large group of guys are coming to NYC during the baseball season. They couldn't get decent tickets to the Yankees game, but still would like to see the game. I don't really do sports bars, so I don't know what's out there.

SO, here's the big question:
Is there a Manhattan sports bar that has GOOD beer & nice food at decent prices, with larger than average-sized TVs? Also, there should be space to, optionally, sit and stand. (You sit when you eat, stand when you drink, sit when you can't drink anymore.)

Any help you give will be great.

  1. Blondies - west 79th Street between Columbus and Broadway (I think).

    1. Stout on 33rd, near MSG.

      1. Mickey Mantle's on Central Park South? A cousin rented some space in the back for his 40th birthday. I don't recall if there was a tv back there, but I know there are up front in the bar area...

        1. the blue seat. depending on the night public house. there so many spots. do you have a n'hood you prefer?

I believe the Blue Seat actually closed. I went by Public House the other night and they have a great set up for games.

          2. There are tons - you should tell us what area you'll be in. I like Back Page (3rd around 83rd).

            1. Not sure what you mean by optionally sit and stand. I've recently went to Maxie's grill on 19th and Park to watch the NCAA tourney and it was a great location. Decent beers, good burger and lots of flat screen tvs. They do a burger much better than their older brother, Angelo and Maxies does a steak.

              1. I thank everyone for replying.

I don’t have a particular neighborhood in mind, but I think I would like to stay below 60th Street. Do you any further ideas?

I don’t know what their daytime plans are, so I figure something below 60th would be easy to get to from multiple directions. Also, it gives you options to move forward from there.

                - I’ve never been in Stout. Read that they have a beer selection. Have to look into that.
                - I will take a look at Maxie’s. I was going to see a NCAA game there, but it didn’t happen.

                1. I'm attempting to bump this up. I'm looking for some place with better food than Fiddlesticks, but in the same general neighborhood (within 10-15 min. walk of Union Sq.) and where I'll be assured of a good view of the game. RUB looks good, but I'm worried the televisions are sort of an after thought there.
