Hong Kong City is reopening!

Nearly a year after the owner of Hong Kong City was murdered in a robbery, the Tamarac restaurant is getting prepared to reopen its doors!

I was driving by the restaurant and noticed a few cars in the parking lot, so I stopped and got the good news - the opening is scheduled for the end of April. The gentleman I spoke with (possibly the new owner, it didn't occur to me to ask...,) said that the menu would be the same, though most of the staff would be new. He explained that the former staff was too traumatized to return, and he's hired a new chef who previously working in New York.

I wish them luck, and I can't wait to get some pan fried noodles!

  1. This is truly good news. I wonder if they'll still do dim sum?

There was an article in today's Sun-Sentinel about it, but they don't mention what is being served in detail.

I noticed that they were open on my way out of town on Friday a week ago, but I didn't get a chance to stop. I'll certainly be visiting this week! Thanks for the link Lisa.

One of the best authentic Hong Kong style restaurants in S. Florida before it closed. Had been open since at least the 1990s. 5301 N. State Road 7 in Tamarac.

Great authentic Hong Kong style restaurant. You also might want to try Silver Pond which is only a few blocks south. Both are superb.

I am so excited to hear that Hong Kong City is re-opened. We live in Lake Worth so we don't get down that way as much, gas of course. Do they have the barbeque selctions that the old owners had?
If you drive a bit down, near Silver Pond, there is a great Chinese bakery that has the best pork buns. We usually get a dozen of them and freeze them for snaks.

The barbecue is there and looks as good as ever, the selection looks the same though I didn't see any cuttlefish. I had some pan fried noodles that were great, just like I remember from a year ago.

Is the bakery next to the Asian grocery? I've seen it, but haven't been in...

            2. Inspired by this post, SO and I will be going either tonight or tomorrow night. What dishes are "not to be missed"? Thanks for the advice! I'll report back after we go.

              1. We finally made it to Hong Kong City BBQ this evening for dinner and to the best of my memory it's as good as ever. We started with the Fish Maw and Crab soup for 2, and then had a selection of BBQ Duck, Ribs, and Pork, and the Singapore Noodles. Everything was very good and along with 2 beers the tab came to an amazing (at least for SoFla) $40.95. They still bring a juicy cut up orange along with the check which I always thought was a nice touch.

The menu seems the same. I thought there were more items to chose from than before but I don't really remember. I did notice that all of our favorites are still there including the salt and pepper squid and those crispy pan-fried noodles.

They also serve dim sum every day until 4 p.m.
