I know there have been similar threads, but . . . I wanted to start my own!

Does anybody know where to get Beef Jerky made from Kobe Beef? How much does it cost and if you've had it, is it worth it?

I'm headed to Austin in a few hours - where can I find some great, custom jerky?

I love beef jerky and I've had a little venison jerky here and there. What other meats make great jerkies and where can I find them? Elk, turkey, pork, rattlesnake, fish (a Vietnamese buddy eats a traditional fish jerky [if memory serves]).

Any other jerky ideas?

Thanks!

Well, my reply has nothing to do with Texas so accept my apologies in advance. Meadow Farms Smoked Meats in Bishop, CA (heart of the Eastern Sierras; a really beautiful spot) makes and ships all manner of really wonderful jerkies. I used to drive through there a few times a year and I would ALWAYS make a Meadow Farms hit on the way up and back. Check 'em out here: http://www.smokedmeats.com/info.html

Again, apologies for the non-TX reference.

Tell us if you find Kobe jerky. With regular beef jerky running around 25 bucks a LB. I would love to see how much Kobe would be per LB. Try calling Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville Tx, they have the largest selection of Jerky I've seen and maybe they can do a custom order.

There is a place south west of Houston off HWY 59 towards Victoria (in El Campo) called Prasek's. They have excellent jerky and tons of dried sausages, plus smoked everything. It is by far the most amazing smokehouse I've ever seen. Its a bit out of the way, but if you ever find yourself down that way, its certainly worth the trip.

Used to eat squid "jerky" (saki ika) in Japanese beer bars. Dried squid cut up in thin strips, nice chewy texture, sometimes dipped in mayo. Saw it Shop Minoya and the defunct Nanami, pretty sure the big Korean markets carry it, too [DFW].

Tastes better than it sounds, and it does go well with beer.

The word "jerky" comes from the official Inca language of Quechua. The Inca word is "charqui", which is jerky made from horsemeat.

Basically, jerky is a strip of meat that has been marinated in a salty, sweet or spicy marinade and then dried at low heat.

Yum!

I may be wrong, but Kobe beef is so marbled with fat I don't think you could make jerkey with it. Jerkey must be made with meat that has a low fat content.

I know that there is Beef Jerky made from Kobe Beef, but I've never seen it. The GM of Tei Tei (I think it's spelled Takyua) told me they used to carry it on their bar menu, but that they don't anymore.

I'm desparate to find some!
