St. Croix restaurant report

  • 0

During a recent trip to St. Croix we had the opportunity to try some great restaurants and some not so great ones.

Savant - We ate outside in the lovely courtyard setting serenaded by the frog or bug in the greenery that was very entertaining. I would recommend that you do not sit on one of the concrete benches at the side. They are very uncomfortable. The menu was varied and imaginative. Some of the dishes were marked as spicy. We found that most of the food, marked or not, was overspiced. It was probably the worst meal we had during the trip. Not horrid, but certainly not great.

Bacchus - A big improvement over Savant. The best service we had. Son said his steak at Bacchus was better than the one at Kendricks. I started with a fantastic, tangy, potato, sausage salad with a mustard dressing and then had the portobello, vegetable entree. Yummy.

Kendricks - My favorite. The wait staff was a little young and inexperienced but the manager more than made up for it. She was great. My salmon was my favorite meal of the week and is in my lifetime top 5. My husband thought his tuna was wonderful. The outdoor setting at Kendricks was as lovely as Savant's but more comfortable.

The Terrace at the Buccaneer - We ate two dinners here at our lodging site. They were very good. Not as memorable as Kendricks or Bacchus but high quality and the view can't be beat.

Mermaid at the Buccaneer - Right off the beach. Salads were good. Do not order the mint tea. It's like drinking mouthwash.

Lunches at:
Off the Wall - What a setting!!! Fabulous beach location and view. Warning, though. They put red pepper flakes in the hamburgers.

Duggans - Another nice setting on the beach. Good salads.

We can't wait to go back.
