New Asia (Cushing Square, Belmont) Seized

I just went by the Cushing Square branch of the New Asia restaurant mini-chain, and noticed some dayglo "Seized" notices on the doors. Maybe this is old news, but it was new to me. Anyone know if the entire chain is kaput? I can't remember the last time I saw anyone eating in the Belmont location...

Here's the scoop from the Citizen-Herald.

Apparently New Asia was not paying its rent and the landlord evicted them. Plus, the article confirms the stories I had previously heard about health code violations. I wonder if other New Asia branches have also closed?

I talked to the owner of New Mayflower (Watertown) a couple weeks ago, and he said he would be moving to New Asia in Belmont around May 1. Not sure if that means he bought it, but I know he was thinking of moving for a while.... glad he's not moving too far away, in any case!

Ling Garden used to be the only good sit-down Chinese restaurant between Cushing and Waverly Squares here in Belmont. Then they started slowly going down hill and finally closed. (The Thai / Vietnamese replacement is quite tasty, but does not fill the Chinese meal itch.) It would be great to have a good sit-down Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood again.
