Vacation in Ireland

  • 2

My family and I are going to Ireland for 10 days in April. We are flying into Shannon and staying in the County Clare area for several days before moving on to Dublin. We will visit Galway, Cork, Limerick, Dingle, The Ring of Kerry, several castles and abbeys between Cork and Galway and Dublin. Looking for a few good Restaurants or Pubs with live music good food! We enjoy trying different types of cuisine.

Also would like advice on sights to see and sights not worth the time or right season.

  1. In the Ring of Kerry, we enjoyed the food at The Muckross Park Hotel, but that was a few years ago, and I'm not sure if it's still as good. In nearby Killarney, the pub to go for music is Buckley's. My husband plays Irish music and we had a great time there... very hospitable people and excellent music. Just check beforehand to see what night there are sessions.

In Dublin, there is a small but very good Indian restaurant, but I can't remember the name. I'll check with my friend there as he's a regular and was the one who took me for a dinner.

Galway City, too, has a lot of good music sessions at pubs. Sorry I don't remember the names, but any local should know.

Linnane's in New Quay, Galway Bay near Ballyvuaghan has wonderful seafood and live music some nights.

We also had an excellent meal at 3Q's in Greystones, Co. Wicklow - about 25 km from Dublin, though there is nothing traditional about the place - it's just good. This area was beautiful, and we also enjoyed a visit to Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry. The Avoca handweavers cfae is amazing!
