Oooh, a toughie. You will spend money at either restaurant. If you are a visitor looking for the quintessential Miami Beach experience, I'd go with Joe's. If you want to see what's hot and good on the Miami culinary scene, Michael's.
Can you do Joe's take out for lunch (cheaper than Joe's) and then hit Michael's for dinner? Wow, that may be my perfect day!

I'd pick Michael's. Joe's may have stone crabs, but Michael's probably showcases more local ingredients on its menu. jessie has the perfect plan though.

Jessie hit the nail on the head but if I had to pick one, it would be Joes.

I agree...Jessie's idea is awesome!!....But forced to pick....I'd go with Joe's...it's THE landmark restaurant in ALL of Miami Beach....It's the oldest and still one of the very best after all of these decades....You can eat stone crabs at different locales in South Florida....but for whatever reason they just don't taste the same....And for what it's worth...you really can't say you've "been to Miami Beach" without having eaten at Joe's Stone Crab......And that's with all due respect to Michaels which is quite good.....Keep your eyes open at Joe's....you never know who'll you see there.....

go with Jessie's suggestion. I would do lunch at Joe's and then Michael's for dinner. Michael's has more interesting scene and you can check out the Design District area and you won't see many people like yourself! (kidding!)

I like jessie's idea too. Do Joes for lunch and Michaels for dinner.

Joe's because you can't get stone crab claws as good as this anywhere else. I'm on the "select" bandwagon.
Michael's is good and I really like the place but if it were in NY, SF, or LA it would be just another very good restaurant. There's no restaurant like Joe's as far as I know.
That said, a double take down is certainly the way to go and is exactly what I did this past weekend when my little sister came to visit.

I agree with Porthos. Besides Joe's season is only Oct-May

From what I have heard the sister restaurants in LV and Chicago are not particularly worth visiting.

Porthos, check out Triar Seafood in Hollywood. The best stone crabs in town at reasonable prices. They sell to the best restaurants nationwide. More info here.
