Not that I'm wildly surprised, but I'm always sad to see a restaurant close on that underserved stretch of Wilshire.
This just gets curiouser and curiouser...
Signs posted at that Wilshire location say that Akbar is reopening soon. Anybody know what the story is?
Sold to sushi spot...
I spoke with the manager at the Marina location yesterday - he says they will be reopening in June after they remodel.
Apparently the rumors of being sold are untrue.
Here is the ABC posting notice regarding the new buyers. Now if the deal fell apart, no one has advised ABC, or at least ABC has not gotten around to canceling things:http://www.abc.ca.gov/datport/LQSDATA...
You were misinformed--I know all the owners.
Adsvino, if you are certain the place has been sold to a sushi spot, any thoughts on why whoever is running the place has posted "Akbar Re-opening" signs?
Well, I haven't spoken to the owner in a few weeks. Perhaps the ABC transfer Carter posted didn't go through (it IS santa monica) and the deal fell apart, leaving Akbar to re-open? Just a guess.
Per Avi, over the weekend, sale fell through, so he's re-modelling and re-opening...
Akbar is still open in Marina Del Rey and Pasadena.Don't cry too much for Akbar. The price paid by the new place to be called Ma Me restaurant was significant.
Any insights into what kind of cusine the new place will serve?
Hermosa Beach too.. Avi is my friend.. Was sold not closed..
All I can say is better late than never :)
