Does anyone know where I can find a recipe for "Yat Gaw Mein"? I have been searching the internet and cookbooks to no avail.

Try this spelling: yaka mein, or ya ka mein, and you should find a pile of recipes. It's a common enough food in NO, LA, sold at corner stores & simple restaurants & sometimes snowball stands/snack shops. Also called Old Sober, thought to be a hangover cure. Mostly a very salty beef broth, seasoned with soy sauce or worcestershire, shreds of beef or ground beef, noodles, hardboiled eggs, etc.

If you're interested, check out Sara Roahen's "Gumbo Tales: Finding My Place at the New Orleans Table". Page 201, she discusses the possible origins of yaka mein in NOLA, as well as various versions & permutations.
