terrific meal at tierra sur restaurant in oxnard
being a very provincial westsider, i never would have guessed that one could get such a lovely meal in oxnard.
the restaurant is located in the baron herzog winery in oxnard.
their food is kosher (though i am not)
and very delicious
we had three starters:
very lightly fried spiced crusted fresh garbanzo beans (yes, they were green)
an assortment of terrific olives
salt cod/potato fried dumpling
all were excellent
salads were perfect, not over dressed, good quality olive oil was used for the dressing and it had a perfect ratio of oil to acidity
for our main dish we had perfectly-prepared seared albacore which was served on a savory pastry 'pillow' that tasted of buckwheat.
the portion sizes were definitely larger than what i'm used to seeing on the westside, and the prices were lower.
the service was professional and attentive without being cloying, and the restaurant decor was lovely: some real money had been spent on the interior design and furnishishing (i.e. real leather seats, comfortable tables spaced well) and it showed.
