Y Los Yucatecos in Roslindale?

I was thrilled to find that my husband and I could take a quick drive up to the Boston area so he could indulge in the food he misses oh so much. Even more excited to have read on Chowhound that Yucatan Tacos is a place to have a quick bite to eat and the sister restaurant is more of a sit down place. But it's been oh-so-frustrating to actually eat there!

The first time, we called ahead to make sure that Yucatan Grill was open, but the man who answered said that they were closed to prepare for a party that night. Wanted to call Yucatan Taco to find out if they too were closed, but all phone numbers I found online were the same for both locations. We drove up there to find that Yucatan Taco was closed as well. No biggie.

Next time, we go on Saturday intending to go to the Grill, but the sign said that they were closed for a week for a vacation. No worries, we find that the Taco was open. Homeboy was bereft that they had taken panuchos off the menu. Order some food and it proves to be okay...I wasn't thrilled with the cochinita I ordered, but I hardly expected them to have a pib in the back to cook it properly. Still unlike any cochinita I've ever eaten. Homeboy was confused by the fact that the place was run by Yucatecos and they still couldn't provide a sufficiently hot salsa nor could they scare up a habanero for him. Oh well, it's better than nothing.

Turns out that there were no panuchos becuse abuelita went back to Yucatan and nobody else knows how to make them.

We had high hopes that abuelta had returned to Mass. so Homeboy could get his panuchos, so we make the drive again...the first strike comes when we find that Yucatan Grill is closed, so we continue on to Yucatan Tacos. Closed as well!

Now, I assume that maybe they don't open on Sundays, but the only info I could find online said that they're open seven days a week. Perhaps that's outdated info, but por fa...it seems that these places hardly ever open!

What gives with los paisas?

  1. I don't know but it seems like the Washington St. location is always pretty dead when I ride by.

    1. Although their slogan is "Mexican food made by Mexicans"... it doesn't taste like there are any mexicans back there cheffing it up. I hope abuelita comes back soon!
