TO for wife's birthday

We'll be in Toronto for one night for my wife's birthday (on a Saturday), and we'll like to go to a nice, romantic place for dinner. We'd like to go to Splendido, but I don't think we can afford it this year.

We'll be staying downtown, but we'll have a car. Any suggestions?

I highly recommend either Mistura or Scaramouche. Of the two, I think Scaramouche is the romantic spot. Mistura has become quite trendy these days since the opening of Sopra above. We went last Saturday night and yes it was romantic, but very loud. With the view at Scaramouche you can't go wrong. The food and service is top notch at both spots. Yet another vote for Scaramouche! Romantic, delicious food, perfect service... I couldn't think of a better place to celebrate.

Mistura is another good choice, and not a blow your paycheck type of spot (not that it's cheap). Skip dessert and go upstairs to their jazz lounge, Sopra for dessert and drinks. Very nice atmosphere.

The Corner House on Davenport at Casa Loma...is a great little spot...small dining rooms and very good food...Miranda

How about Scaramouche? It's got an awesome romantic view of the city, and a great ambience. It's also a little cheaper than Splendido's.

Yes, if you're looking for flawless and romantic a definite big 2nd on the Scaramouche rec. The service is both astonishingly good and completely unobtrusive. The wine selection is great. The by-the-glass is also quite nice which is something that's impossible to tell by their website.

I'm glad to hear about the by-the-glass selections. The wine lists at a lot of Toronto restaurants were giving me a little sticker shock.
