Drinks near the Helmand before dinner

Any suggestions for Sat. night to meet for drinks before dinner near the Helmand?

Kinda slim pickings in that neighborhood. I might hit the bar at Dante, in the Sonesta, or perhaps the bar at Bambara, in the Hotel Marlowe (a place I haven't been in for years). I've slummed at the bar at Desfina for pitchers, but I think it would be unwise to order anything more complicated than a highball there. There used to be this funny little dump of an old man bar / VFW hall nearby on 1st Street: Crystal's, maybe? I think it's still there. That might be an interesting change of pace.

I'm ashamed to say it was/is called the Crystal Lounge. Otherwise known to my co-workers as "the V".

I think the bar at Dante would be a better bet. ;-)
