Best Champagne @ $50?

Can someone out there with some wine knowledge let me know the answer to this question? Veuve Clicquot is at this price level but it seems like you're paying for marketing. What's a better value and a better champagne? Caveat: widely available, grocery store or basic wine/liquor store. Thanks!

        no worries.
i just got back from my local safeway, and for what it's worth they had bollinger at $46 and a couple of good french NV bruts for about $35 (perrier jouet and lauren-perrier).
