Providence Oyster Recs

Heading to Providence for the weekend for a wedding, staying in town (the Biltmore) but will have a car. We want to do lunch either Friday or Saturday, no preference either way, but want some great shellfish, a few beers and a convivial atmosphere (i.e. doesn't need to be fancy - love clam shacks on the shore and also love Neptune Oyster in Boston)

What would be our best choices for raw bar?

Thanks for the help!

  1. McCormick and Schmick's in the Biltmore has a good raw bar. There's also Hemenways, which isn't too far away. Many people like the food, but I think it's just OK. M&S is much better IMO.

There's a place called Providence Oyster House on Atwells Ave. I've had good experiences there, if you're looking for something local and not a national chain.

always will opt for local over a chain - thanks for the ideas...

I second the Providence Oyster House. My sistah and I love to go there for a mid-week lunch. Nice by-the-glass wine selection, too.

Not to nitpick, but it's PVD Oyster BAR, not House (in case you're trying to Google it or anything).

            We stand corrected.

I think I heard an ad on a radio where oysters and aps there are half price during certain hours (4-6?) during the week. Anyone know more about that?
