Providence Oyster Recs

Heading to Providence for the weekend for a wedding, staying in town (the Biltmore) but will have a car. We want to do lunch either Friday or Saturday, no preference either way, but want some great shellfish, a few beers and a convivial atmosphere (i.e. doesn't need to be fancy - love clam shacks on the shore and also love Neptune Oyster in Boston)

What would be our best choices for raw bar?

McCormick and Schmick's in the Biltmore has a good raw bar. There's also Hemenways, which isn't too far away. Many people like the food, but I think it's just OK. M&S is much better IMO.

There's a place called Providence Oyster House on Atwells Ave. I've had good experiences there, if you're looking for something local and not a national chain.

I second the Providence Oyster House. My sistah and I love to go there for a mid-week lunch. Nice by-the-glass wine selection, too.

Not to nitpick, but it's PVD Oyster BAR, not House (in case you're trying to Google it or anything).

I think I heard an ad on a radio where oysters and aps there are half price during certain hours (4-6?) during the week. Anyone know more about that?
