Cost of an entree at Striped Bass?

My hubby & I have gift certifs for Steven Starr restaurants & would like to use them this weekend... I've never been to the Striped Bass & would maybe like to go there... but I have no idea what the cost of an entree is (we're looking to not spend any of our own $$, just use the gift cards).... so if I were to order the Striped Bass as the entree, what would that run me? $30? $35? $45 ??? I have it in my mind that this place is uber expensive -- I would think that striped bass may normally be $33, but if the price is going to be more like $45-50 then I need some forewarning!

  1. I'm gonna go with a $35-$40 avg. Haven't been there in about a year though and inflation has been kicking in.

    1. If you have a Starr GC, I'd recommend going somewhere other than Striped Bass, it's not very good and it's ridiculously expensive (which compounds the fact that it's not that good).

I was just there a month ago and had one fine meal. I think you are looking at the $35-40 category.
        Bon appetit.

I always thought that Striped Bass was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in the city? What makes it "not very good" in your opinion?

It used to be very good, but the executive chef who made it so, Christopher Lee, has sinced moved on to other things. I can't say whether it was ever one of the best restaurants in the city because I never ate there when he was there, but it certainly is not one of the best restaurants in the city now. The food there is just OK, nothing special, and the service I had on my one and only visit was condescending and incompetent at the same time.

Basically my opinion of a restaurant is based on the quality of the food, the manner in which it's served, and the price being charged for it. If the food is fantastic, I'm willing to forgive a lot on the other two criteria. Striped Bass charges ridiculous prices, our service was poor, and the food is just OK. For me, that equals 'not very good'.

              I am astounded.
This seems to be a case of the blind children and the elephant.
Friends of ours wanted to go there and I was not exactly thrilled about the idea but went along.
I am glad I did. Not only was the service competent and friendly but the food was absolutely delicious (and I am known by some as the "impossible spoiled brat") I was shocked. Yes, the prices are "pricey." But I never cared about spending more for quality.
I wish you'd give it a try. I am anxious to know if my fussy taste buds just went south or not.
