Soba?
Where is the best place to grab some delicious soba noodles for lunch? I live in Williamsburg and am convinced there is nowhere in this neighborhood to get any. But anywhere downtown (below 23rd or so) will do. I will travel to sate this craving.
I don't want/need a fancy place. Just a place that serves delicious soba dishes - cold & hot - to takeout or to scarf down there.
Thanks!

Definitely Soba koh ahead of Soba ya and by some distance. I am a fan of the hot soba with eel tempura. And agree that Honmura An trumped both places but is sadly no more.
Not below 23rd St but a worthwhile new kid on the block is Soba Totto on E43rd St which I tried for the first time late Feb. The noodles were good, so too the curry based broth I opted for, perfect for a cold winter's evening. Lots of other interesting izakaya items on the menu (including one dish featuring ankake sauce which I am a fan of) although the yakitori items we ordered didn't particularly impress. Menu can be inspected on menupages although they don't seem to list the curry soba I ordered.

Another place is soba koh, which I prefer to sobaya.
A more expensive place is 15 East. Their soba chef was the former chef at Honmura An, which had better soba than both sobaya and sobakoh.

I like Soba-ya. When ever I go, we are pretty much the only Americans in the place. Very tasty and the deserts are great as well.
