Vuelve la Vida

So what do y'all think of this place on Pacific, just north of 56th in Tacoma? They make their own tortillas, and you can buy a dozen to take out -- the only fresh tortillas for sale I've found in Tacoma so far. I've had only a few tacos, but they were on the mark. Has anyone tried more substantial fare? How are the chiles rellenos?

  1. I am surprised that Vuelve a la Vida (5312 Pacific) doesn't get mentioned more often on this board. I am addicted to their shrimp & octopus tostadas, and their tamales are very good. I prefer this place to El Compadre, which is often mentioned on this board. And, yes, the tacos are excellent. This place is very good and very cheap. Trust me on the shrimp/octopus tostada, a $2.25 piece of heaven.

Do you know their hours? Is it take-out only? Thanks for the recommendation - I can't wait to try it now that Tacoma is more convenient than Seattle.

I do not know the hours of Vuelve a la Vida, but they are open seven days a week, and I have never seen them closed (but I have never tried them late at night). Their phone is 253.473.7068.

They have approximately 20 sit-down tables/booths. It is always busy.

A note of caution: They used to have an item on their menu that was described as "goiter taco." I asked the waitress about it, and she replied, "I don't know what it is; I don't eat it." It disappeared from the menu a couple of years ago.
