Gingerbread cake or loaf in toronto?

I had the best gingerbread loaf a few years ago from Whole Foods in Washington D.C , ever since then I've been looking for it here in toronto to no avail. Does anyone know of a bakery that make a good dark gingerbread cake or loaf?

Frangipane on Dupont does a very nice ginger cake (though I can't recall if it's dark or not).

This is seriously out of the way but the Rosemont Inn has really lovely gingerbread loaf with fresh cream and rhubarb compote. It's worth the drive

Oh Noodlhead I feel your pain. The Whole Foods in Cali do the same bread. Saran-wrapped and by the coffee, It`s amazingly good. I don`t know of any bakery that does it, but I do know that if you can get your hands on the Nigella recipe that it`s damn good, same texture and moisture...but it sure ain`t healthy.

Had a very good one recently from All The Best at Summerhill. It was a mini-loaf.

I bought the one from All The Best once and really didnt like it. I think there was orange zest or something else in there that really didnt appeal to me. It was a while ago though.

I love the loaf from All the Best though I do know that It is an acquired taste. I know they use fresh ginger which makes it VERY strong. (and yummy)

When I read the title of your post, I was going to suggest Whole Foods! I had their chocolate ginger loaf before Christmas here in Toronto and I loved it too. Maybe it's a seasonal item, but I'd love to hear if anyone has any other leads.

I had an amazing gingerbread cake at The Rushton a year or so ago. But it was on Valentines Day so I think it was part of their special menu for that day.
