Date-type dining in Lan/EL?

I am returning to the Lansing/East Lansing area later this month and have a bit of a dilemma on my hands. You see, my significant other has never been to the area and I have no idea where to take him. The only places I (usually) went to while there were places you'd go with your buddies on a weekend night (ie. Steak 'n Shake, Q Sushi, Woody's, places in Meridian and Lansing Mall) or would order in (ie. Rice Kitchen, Cottage Inn, Menna's Joint). We're traveling on a tight budget...any suggestions?
