Just love all those little new places that pop up in Palm Springs - went to the strip mall Korean restaurant at Landau and Ramon and found it had turned into a sushi bar (still with Korean bar b que) but opted for the restaurant next door,
EL ACQUARIO - a Puerto Vallarta seafood restaurant - great food, short on ambiance but the jute box wailing was good background. Ate a huge and magnificent shrimp cochtiel packed with fresh big shrimp, loads of chopped celery, cucumber, parsley and home made (or so it seemed ) juice. Very good. SO and offspring ate shrimp cerviche tostadas and then plates of carnitas, also rated high. Homemade chips and salsa, very good. Also had dinner of splendid pizza at
CAFE ITALIA at Hiway lll and Racquet Club. Their pizza is first class, mucho mushrooms and anchovies on a thin crust and a big salad (so so house wine) but had the blaring Italian cable for atmosphere, v.nice.
The awful was lunch at the
RACQUET CLUB BAMBOO ROOM. Ordered french onion soup that wasn't, just beef broth with some onion pieces floating in it; SO ordered a club sandwich which my Mom would describe as very much of the sandwich and very little of the club (the avacodo was in a minute portion on the side. The waiter suggested we order the soup instead of french fries, then charged us for the soup (also had a friend along) so we were charged for three soups and a split charge for the sandwich (no mention on the menu). It was an underwhelming experience particularly with the wait staff telling us how delicious every thing is on the menu (cute but not cute "the Ingrid Bergman" "the Marlene Dietrich sandwiches). Last complaint: the music tape of thirties torch singers played over and over three times as we were sitting there - AND YOU GUYS WERE OUT HAVING FUN CHOWHOUNDING!
