Best Restaurants in Oak Park?
I'll be in Oak Park for the Frank Lloyd Wright annual house tour in mid-May and am considering having dinner there before returning to Chicago - providing there is an outstanding restaurant. Do any Chowhounds have recommendations?
I would suggest Hemmingways Bistro on Oak Park Avenue as being the only restaurant in Oak Park worthy of this board. A new mexican restaurant just opened in OP and it is just average, I would say the same about the new sushi place on lake street. An alternative is Forest Park which has some good restaurants and bars. Go with Hemmingways and you wont be disappointed

Hemmingways, Gaetano's (though I haven't been yet. SOON!) sure.
Has Cafe Le Coq gone downhill?
Chestnuthouse - If you are a Mexican food fan, you might wanna try Xni Pec on your way back to the city. It's not "upscale" but it is one of the finer examples of Chicago's offerings of regional mexican cuisine. Fancy ? No. Outstanding? Absolutely 100% YES!!
If you care about reviews, here's check, please:
Here's another Chicago food site's take:
Went to Gaetano's Saturday night. Had a reservation but still had to wait almost 45 min. Noisy and tables are very tight. My wife had to get up so the waitress could get to the table in the corner. Similar menu to La Piazza. Food was excellent as always.
I would highly recommend Xni Pec....It is our favorite Mexican place. Maya De Sol in Oak Park is just OK.
A little way west on Roosevelt Road in Emelio's Tapas Bar, a couple miles west of Hines VA hospital. I believe it was his first place after leaving the Lettuce venue. Still very good.
