Good New American / moderate price?

Any suggestions for dinner (midtown - Village) with great New American at moderate prices (main $15-$22)? Intimate setting for quite conversation and nice decor even better.

I've been there a few times with different friends since it opened in December and everyone always enjoys it. Last friday, before a show, a friend had suggested Momofuku, but it was to crowded when we got there (at 6:30pm!), so we walked over to The Smith and had a great meal -- even though our minds and tastebuds had been set on Momofuku.
