Upscale lunch near Copley/Newbury St

What would you choose for an upscale lunch near Copley/Newbury Street?

Right now I'm trying to decide between the Oak Bar, Boston Public and the Palm. Are these the three contenders or are there others?

Thanks!

Tough call - I love the atmosphere at the Oak Bar and the food is great. Depending on who is bartending though it can feel stuffy. As for the Palm, it feels much less formal. Also, the bartender that was working when I went last, was a true professional. Just enough chat, not intrusive, wonderful service. The lunch hour, however, can be dead. The last time I was there; there was just 3 people at the bar. I also think that Davios or Abe and Louies are good options.

All three serve a good steak. I actually had better steak at the Palm than the Oak Room, surprisingly. The Palm is the least formal of the three. The Oak Room has striking decor and excellent cocktails, but sometimes I feel the atmosphere is a bit much.

We have had some horrid service and mediocre food at lunch at the Oak Room.

Personally, I can think of no better spot than L'Espalier.

I agree that L'Espalier is lovely, but I'd rather eat at a bar for this occasion than in a dining room.

The Bar at the Taj also serves lunch and the setting is wonderful with views of the Public Garden. The menu is limited but the atmosphere is as upscale as you can get.

        Some additional places to consider:

Davios, Via Matta, Bristol Lounge, Cafe at the Taj, Abe & Louie's, Atlantic Fish.
And if you're willing to go somewhat further, L'Espalier has a prix fixe lunch special (now $30).

Excellent call on the Bristol Lounge - completely forgot about that one. Thanks!

I haven't been, but the sentiment on Laurel here seems positive.

Laurel's actually not quite upscale enough for this occasion. Thanks for the idea though!
