French Martini

I am having a hard time finding fresh pineapple juice. Any suggestions (Boston area)?Would it be a sin to use canned?

Also is this a drink that I can make by the pitcher ahead of time and serve individually via cocktail shaker?

Finally if anyone has an exceptional recipe for this could you kindly share it?

  1. I'm racking my brain to think of *any* place I've seen that stocks fresh pineapple juice and am drawing a blank. I think if you want to go that route you may have to juice it yourself. It would hardly be a sin to use canned; the vast majority of French martinis that you've had in bars have almost certainly used canned Dole pineapple juice. I prefer getting the bottled juice from Trader Joe's or Target, as you can re-seal it and use the rest another time easier than with a can.

You can certainly make it ahead of time. If you want to make it in advance and put the pitcher in the fridge, add 50 percent of the recipe's volume in water. The added water simulates the water normally added from the ice melting as you shake it.

As for a recipe... not much to it. Two ounces vodka, half an ounce each of Chambord and pineapple juice. Shake like the dickens with crushed ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
