One of my favorite places is "Sushi & Saki" on Central that shares space with a Korean BBQ. The sushi is really imaginative and is very fresh. (I saw one of the sushi chefs haggling with the fish monger at Talin Market). Gil's Thrillin Web Site has an excellent section on all the sushi joints in town, so go have a look. The AYCE hour is very fine - especially if you're in a group as everyone in the party has one "Chef's Special" choice. My favorite is the "Orange Blossom" - a tasty combo of a crab center with salmon on the outside in an orange wasabi sauce that I've often dreamed about.
The best by far, IMHO, is Noda's in Rio Rancho. Japanese owned (most others in ABQ are Korean owned) and incredible quality fish. Very inventive rolls. Try the japanese mustard roll -amazing! No sushi bar, just regular tables.. casual. They also have traditional cooked japanese food on the menu. Worth the drive to RR.
In ABQ, our fave is Samurai on Montgomery and Eubank.
The only "high end" type sushi place I can think of is the new place on Montgomery and Tramway and I didn't care for it all. All the others are fairly similar with regard to price.
