We moved to Gold Canyon seven years ago and we have yet to find a steakhouse thats worth going back to, or that wasn't dissapointing compared to price we paid for it. I was hoping to take my husband out for our ten year anniversary and knock his socks off with some perfect prime rib! I'm wishing for somewhere closer to Gold Canyon, or at least not any further than Mesa/Gilbert/Tempe, any suggestions?

Thanks! I'm still a work in progress when it comes to cooking and beef seems to be my downfall. I wasn't sure what Western Meats was so I looked it up, it has a restaurant too, right around Greenfield, I think I'll try there. Thank You! I will have to buy some prime rib and try to make my own though, if I can master it, it would probably be the best anniversary present ever!

Keely - I have been to Midwestern Meats several times and cannot recall seeing the restaurant; perhaps it is in the adjacent strip mall.

That said, I hope someone will chime in here who has visited, because I can't see this as a "special occasion" type of place, especially for a ten year anniversary.

The only other place that I can think of that has prime rib and meets your E. Valley criteria is EJ's Steakhouse @ McKellips / Higley.

I do not believe he was suggesting eating it there but rather buying it there to prepare at home. I have not been to a Flemings for some time but have had good Prime Rib there in the past and their Chandler location would not be too far out of the way.

It would seem that you might have a drive no matter the end choice and since it is a special occasion rather than a regular occurance think about just going ahead and spending an extra twenty minutes and broadening out the available choice of options. One of you will end up being the designated driver anyway, unless of course you were planning a cab.

Keely33, I also live in GC. I taught at Scottsdale Culinary Institute and would be happy to walk you through the cooking process for Prime Rib. e-mail = cooks4play@mchsi.com. Really, this is not a difficult thing to do. Promise.

Perhaps EJ's Prime Steakhouse on McKellips in Mesa?

I've not been there, but I've bought meat from their butcher shop operation and it was very good. There's a review by the East Valley Tribune recently that was favorable.

Thanks All! Funny...I get home with a plan to take my husband out...and he's in the kitchen with what else, prime rib! I couldn't belive it! Guess we're happily married this long for a reason ;) I told him I was asking around and we do plan to check out both places soon, he did do a pretty great job dinner, I think he called his mom :). And now of course, we've had enough to last us a while! Thank you though! I'm fairly new to this site and I love it! And I think I would like to see the recipe from Sherri ;).

I know its been well over a year since I posted but, we just moved closer into town and closer to Midwestern Meats so my husband and I went there for dinner the other night, and I have to say I was again disappointed. We had the prime rib special. The only part of the meal I like were the mashed potatoes. The prime rib was overcooked, the veggies were...interesting. And for dessert - after you walk past the little bakery on entering the restaurant - we got lime jello. I hoping maybe they were just having an off night, but I'm not willing to try them again. Oddly enough, Midwestern was where my hubby bought the prime rib he made(sorry drewb123, I didn't see that last post), which was oh so awesome, so I can't blame it on the meat. I came back to this post to see what other suggestions were made, maybe EJ's next time.

FYI - EJ's closed down a couple of months ago.

On a meat buying note, last month AJ's was having a 1/2 off prime meat event and we got a fantastic prime beef tenderloin for a great price (reg $26/lb, sale at half that). They hang a big banner outside to advertise, so perhaps keep a look out if you go by Dana Park.

As far as eating prime rib, I've heard good things about The Landmark, but have only been there once myself when family was in town, and didn't try the prime rib.

Report back if you find anything great!
