Mitsuwa Market [moved from Manhattan board]

Hello All,
After seeing it on TV and reading various blurbs about it I'm thinking about taking the shuttle bus from Port Authority over to Edgewater NJ for the Mitsuwa Japanese Market. Has anyone does this?

I'm all for adventure but I'm curious if it's worth the "shlep."

Any thoughts?

  1. When I used to live in Manhattan, I took the bus to Mitsuwa and enjoyed the trip. It only cost something like $4 round trip then (5 yrs ago). If you really like Japanese stuff, it's worth the trip, there is a huge supermarket (with hard to find items like fresh yuzu), and a great food court (with terrific ramen), and some small stores as well that sell lovely Japanese pottery and fun items for kids. If you look online, you'll probably see the times/info for the shuttle at Port Authority.

Thanks for the input! It's still $4 for the bus so I'm going to check it out!

    2. I love stopping by Mitsuwa on the way home. The udon noodles are great and the treats are delicious. I especially like the fish-shaped pastries and the rabbit pastries from the little bakeshop right next to the information booth. The supermarket has some nice treats and fresh produce, including a pretty wide variety of mushrooms. I always make sure to pick up a box of mochi treats and more from the shop right next to the chocolate shop. Sorry I don't know the stores' names!

      1. I went yesterday. The bus was $3 each way but well worth it. What a cool store!
