Seeking the best place for PHO in Argyle
We are craving PHO - reallly really good PHO. The only place we've tried is Tank Noodle which was pretty OK. Friends are recommending Pho Xe Lua - but we've read mixed reviews. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My wife and I just went to Pho Xua at 1020 W. Argyle. It's new -- they renovated the space and it's very pretty inside. Nice tableware, seats, good lighting, etc. We were both very impressed with the food. We were with a Vietnamese couple and they steered our choices. We also tasted what they ordered. There wasn't a bad dish in the lot, and the pho was especially good.
They served everything with an attention to detail and presentation that made the meal a great date for us.
The service was good -- the waitress was very nice and always at hand.
And it was cheap: we spent a lot on a fish (though not more than usual), but everything else was very inexpensive.
I usually like dives and maintain that you eat with your mouth and nose, not your eyes. The niece decor and pretty presentation came as a great plus, though.

Our favorite is 777. It's all personal preference. The soup stock at Tank is sweeter. So if you like that flavor then you'll like that better. I have found that all of the places have their own recipe.
I have also found that all the places are fairly INconsistent. On occassion I have had been served a tepid (not hot) soup base at all of them. Also, I have found that the amount of meat they put in varies upon the whim of the cook that day. But that's the nature of these mom and pop places. -
