Lunch below 14th Street

Marion Morgenthal Mar 30, 2008 09:07 PM

Looking for recommendations for a lunch (celebrating a special birthday) below 14th Street (preferably west, but east side works also). Something other than the usual salads/sandwiches would be great, in comfortable setting.

How much below 14th St.? What type of food? There are lots of restaurants in the Village. I have a 3-page list that was e-mailed to me for my upcoming trip to NYC. I can probably give you some recommendations from that, if you can narrow it down a bit.

Ideally between Houston & 14th, although down to Canal is fine. Type of food doesn't really matter--although unusual/inventive would be a plus.

really not--not looking to spend $100 / person, but am willing to go for a splurge if it's a special place.

I think you should consider Bouley. Amazing decor, perfect for celebration. Prix fixe at $38 or $45+ (without drinks.) You will have a great time!

If your party is in the mood for good seafood, Mary's Fish Camp on W. 4th at Charles St. was recommended to me. They have a web site where you can view the menu, etc. The Old Homestead, 56 Ninth Ave., between 14th & 15th Sts. is good, but not sure if they're open for lunch. You may already be aware of them.
