re: David W
I went to Beisl last night - eh. The service really was not good...one waiter grunted at me. Another held up the schnitzel and yelled: "who has the schnitzel??" The schnitzel was passable but the parsleyed potatoes were actually cold. Not room temp but cold. I asked the waitress about the beers - hoping to find an amber and all she could tell me was that if I liked Budweiser than I'd like this last beer on the menu!!!!
On the up scale, the concert was slammin' and I met Ruth Reichl (Gourmet Mag) at the intermission!!!

Thomas Beisl is clearly the closest, but while it used to be pretty good, the latest reviews on this board have been quite negative. The BAM Café in the BAM building is probably a better choice if you don't want to walk a few blocks. The food is OK and it certainly is convenient. The space is very nice. Just make sure that they are not having an event there as the also use the space for readings, jazz and other performances.
