Can I freeze a cake once it has been coated with sugar syrup?

I have a recipe from Amanda Hesser that calls for soaking a vanilla pound cake in a sugar/water/vanilla syrup. I'd like to make it and freeze it. Do you think it will work?

    It's best not to. The glaze will break down and become watery when it's defrosted.

      Do the glaze after defrosting.
