Vientiane Supermarket at Bradstock and Weston Rd. is amazing. Great selection, really inexpensive and the staff are great. One young guy who is usually there, maybe the owner, has spent 20 minutes with me telling me about all the various thai herbs and what people use them for. They also have great thai jasmine rice that they import themselves - better than the stuff in Chinatown.

Drove past this supermarket so often and never dropped in, but judging by the name, it would be Viet, Thai and Chinese foods. As I think about it, cannot answer, South Asian foods definitely further north and north west and all around from the north central area requested. Heck of a big city to be driving by and missing much!!

South Asian — Indian/Sri Lankan — or South East Asian (Thai, etc)?

I used to live north/central and the closest one for me was sadroos at 487 mcnicoll, off of victoria park. A bit of a haul if you don't have a car, but it is pretty well stocked.
