help... stew/soup too salty

how do i fix this??? any hope to save it... thanks

The only way to reduce the saltiness and maintain the integrity of the soup/stew etc. is to make another batch with no salt and combine the two...Adding potatos to reduce salt is an old Kitchen myth that seems not to want to go a way..It does not work!! Potatoes have no magic in them to only absorb salt. They absorb liquid. Removing three or four table spoons of liquid accomplishes the same thing....nothing. Adding sugar, vinegar, orange juice etc. may mask the saltiness somewhat, but then you have a dish that doesn't taste like the original dish...Make another batch and combine the two........

    Enjoy!

Right you are about the potato not absorbing salt. You might as well drop a sponge to "absorb" the salt. Just doesn't work.

i decided to add a tabelspoon of sugar and it definetly helped. there was no way i was going to add more of the veggies and stuff to it since it was already 6-8 servings for the 2 of us. thanks for the suggestions.

Just read Jeffrey Steingarten's "The Man Who Ate Everything". He says brown sugar works the best, for what it's worth now...

A big old baking potato cut up in 4-6 pieces left in for an hour at lowish temp MAY absorb! Otherwise add more 'stuff' as advised.

Potato will absord salt to some degree.

There are lots of opinions I am sure, but I find adding more of an ingredient like veggies and more water, but no more salt, can even it out. Vinegar or citrus juice as a squirty add-in also helps right before tasting.
