second Chaya Venice - I had a really good meal there last week. I was impressed with the service, too. I want to check out the sushi special at the bar during happpy hour one of these days.
Depends on the scene you like...my first choice would be Jones Hollywood (reasonable prices, great food, excellent bar) its dark and sexy and rock n' roll. If you want something quiet, try Tosca Wine Bar on 3rd. Small plates, good wine choices.
