Oyster House on Sansom any good?

After Morimoto's omakase last night, I figured I would never eat again.... well, now it's lunch time and I think I'm ready.

After all the hype about DiNic's roast pork sandwich, that's what I had planned for. However, the Oyster House is (kinda) on the way to RTM from my hotel, so I thought 'hey, how about a 1/2 oysters as a starter and then get on my merry way to RTM....'

Thoughts? How large is this pork sammie anyway? I'm asking because I won't get there until about 2:30 (I am guessing), and I have a dinner rez at Il Portico for 8 pm.

Yes, it is one gluttonous wkend ------

      Lots of us are out and about on a weekend - shopping, errands, etc. So often there aren't many people on Chowhound.
      Too late, but yes, the oysters there are good. Not much else.

        I second what Sylvia said. I was really disappointed. The actual shellfish are fine, nothing really special. Service is abysmal. Not nasty, just clueless.

          Well, I stopped there on the way to RTM, had a 1/2 Bluepoints at the bar, service was fine... oysters nice. Good breakfast!!!

        I've always loved the place, but I also sit at the bar and order blue points!!

          Its great for trying new varieties of oysters you may not have experienced before. They have the standard East coast varieties and also fly them in from the Pacific northwest. I'd give the nod to their rich, smokey clam chowder and their chicken salad and fried oyster platter as well.

            If you enjoy the oysters, the owner has opened a casual French bistro called Coquette at 5th and Brandywine - good raw bar. We also enjoyed the French onion soup, great steak frites, nice European atmosphere, moderate prices.

            It's 5th & BAINBRIDGE, and Carry Neff (chef/owner) always runs a nice place. He's a good guy too.

              We ate at Coquette last sunday and I have to say, they really nailed the look and feel of a small French bistro. We were very impressed with the atmosphere... we wern't expecting too much after the so-so reviews we had read. The food was about what it should've been. One thing that surprised me though was the way they served their sardines. They come 2 to an order, grilled and sitting on top of 2 long pieces of toasted bread... head, tail and spine intact. Now, for us this was no problem. I know how to remove the spine in one quick motion. Just butterfly or split open the fish, twist the head a little to loosen it at the gills and pull it right out all in one piece... if you're lucky, you get the tail as well. I know this is traditional in Europe and seen as no big deal. But I was wondering, on any given night how many people send this dish back to the kitchen or are totally freaked out..."Oh my god Henery... it still has the head on!!!" Even knowing what we were doing and not being freaked out at all, it was still interesting trying to do it at the table and not make a total mess. I thought it was a bold move to not dumb it down for the usually squemish dining public. As a side note, we drove by the restaurant by chance the very next evening at 7:30 and there was not a soul in there except for the staff sitting at the bar. So, maybe they are freaking a few people out... the only thing worse that an empty restaurant is an empty restaurant with lots of windows.

                One of my faves when at the Sansom St. Oyster House were fried clams. I know it's a seasonal thing, but when they are on the menu, they are sweet and great. Another thing I used to love, but this is very seasonal, is a lunch plate with a small amount of roe accompanied by a piece of shad. Yum.
