Yikes, no reservations for this week

NancyinNJ Mar 29, 2008 07:50 AM

A friend and myself are coming to SF on Wednesday - Friday and wanted to go to Zuni Cafe and Slanted Door but open table says no can do. Can we get walk in tables, call for reservations, or should some one else recommend another restaurant.

You should call both places for reservations, Zuni doesn't put them all on open table. You could also try either place at lunch, they're both open for lunch. For Slanted Door you can be a walk in for sure (you'll just have to wait a bit, but they save some tables for walk ins). I'm not sure about Zuni.

Zuni definitely reserves a few tables for walk ins, and only puts a very limited number of spots on Open Table. So I agree, definitely call.

Zuni may hold some tables, but when I've walked in during dinner rush, I think the estimated wait has always been 45 minutes or more. After 10pm they usually seat us right away.

I've walked in to Zuni for a late lunch on a weekday and been seated right away.

      Definitely phone.

You can also make early / late reservations on opentable, then call the restaurant and ask if they can change the time.

Slanted Door, personally I prefer to go for a late lunch, when it's quieter.

Sure, but it's hard to give recommendations without more specifics about what you're looking for.

Trying to be more specific, I guess what I don't want is italian or steak, I saw your recommendation of Incanto. We are staying at Fisherman's Wharf, is that easy to get to? I also saw mention of Greens. If you were in NYC I would mention Gramercy Tavern, Otto, Blue RIbbon Restaurants so I guess like those.

For Incanto you can get from the wharf to 1550 Church by streetcar, F line to J line to front door. Check with the restaurant. It is, however, Cal/Italian.

If you are thinking Gramercy Tavern, etc, than you should should consider Coi, Ame, or Dining Room at the Ritz. Greens is a vegetarian restaurant and not nearly as upscale or interesting.
