Elegant cupcake recipe?

thesu Mar 28, 2008 10:45 PM

I'd like to make a birthday cake that people can just grab and eat. Cupcakes fit the description, but I'd like something a little fancier. I'm think about making Alice Medrich's fallen chocolate souffle cake (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recip...) in cupcake form. Do you have any other ideas?

Has anyone tried baking pound cake in cupcake cups. Does it do ok?

I think IN the cups would be a mess - I'm not a fan of cupcake wrappers anyway - but, you could do them in a muffin tin..I dont think they would get the famous "muffin top" though....not enough rising power.

Le Pain Quotidien has these marvelous Belgian chocolate "brownies" made in cupcake papers--they're SOOO rich and good, and very popular!

These cupcakes are not only scrumptious, but the gorgeous ganache frosting is like edible, shimmery silk

Some sources for now or future cupcake needs; these blogs are all cupcake-centric.

I was going to recommend cupcakeblog.com as well. The pictures are gorgeous and her recipes always sound delicious and many are very elegant.

These two cupcake recipes are very good and can definitely be elegant:

            Coconut Cupcakes

            Cinnamon-Scented Devil's Food Cupcakes

The coconut cupcakes are very rich, but excellent.
