Where to buy Italian Specialties - Sopressata Salami
Hello everyone,
as a recently relocated European I do enjoy the food here in the south, but - I'm afraid I have to admit - I do miss certain foods that I previously took for granted...
So, I heard that there is a store in New Orleans that obviously sells Italian Specialties, such as real Sopressata and others. I've been trying to find that store but so far have not been really successful. Can somebody help me? There are also French Cheeses on my list, but I really would love to find Sopressata....
I'll be in NOLA next week and would have time to shop, so any tips are greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much
Whole Foods sells Applegate Farms sopressata (regular & a "hot" variety). You should also try Just Italy deli on Veterans near Dorignac's and Nor-Joe Imports, just off of Metairie Road. Try St. James Cheese Company for all of your fromagerie.

A new all Italian market (sorry can't' remember the name) opened recently next to Dorignacs..same side of Vets, set back a bit and just across the side street.

That would be Just Italy, referenced both above & below.

not sure what part of town you're looking at, but I go to Terranovas on Esplanade for good italian salami, sausage, grated cheeses and meat- very good example of a neighborhood corner store that carries outstanding products

I bought spicy sopressata from Just Italy a few days ago. They have an excellent selection of imported cold cuts and cheeses

Just Italy also has the best muffaletta I've ever eaten (and I've tried a lot). All imported meats and cheeses, and they make their own olive salad. The potato salad-type side is also wonderful; no mayo, just olive oil I think.

Stein's on Magazine has an amazing meat and cheese selection. Check their website for a listing. I think they have both a molinari and a biellese sopressata.

Never heard of this place, but it looks impressive judging from the web site. I'll have to pay a visit. When did it open? How's it doing?

Stein's has been open awhile...about two years maybe? They seem to be doing well and are often very busy.

I'm a huge fan. It's right by the flag store on Magazine (we all know the flag store...). Between the H&H bagels and the mind blowing reubens, I love it. I stumbled across it one day when I was heading back downtown and decided to try it for lunch. The staff is friendly and efficient and the clientèle are that cool, eclectic crowd you expect at that kind of a deli. Be prepared to pay about ten bucks for a sandwich and then go digging around in your wallet after you eat b/c you want one to go!
I don't normally blow smoke about a restaurant, but this place really impressed me.
