For my mother's 80th birthday in Sept. I'm organizing a lunch for about 50 people on Long Island. We may have a few kids but mostly adults from early 20s on. We want good food but it doesn't have to be great. A private room is nice but not necessary. Would like to pay about $40 per person. Most important things are great service and the right location -- something near the water or in a nice downtown area near a park. or village where we can stroll around. Huntington area is where she's based. Thanks.

  1. Danford's in Port Jeff? http://www.danfords.com/Restaurant/re...

    1. Look into Louie's, in Port Washington. The food has been amazing lately! It's right on the harbor, where you can stroll to your heart's content, after the meal.

      1. How about Prime in Huntington? On the water where CoCo's used to be. Haven't eaten there, but reviews are mostly good.

        1. I was driving along 25A today so I have a few suggestions:

Someplace in Northport? I have not eaten in these places- maybe the Ritz Cafe, or Bistro 44. Northport is a nice walking around town.

The Millpond in Centerport. They are a little priceybut they have an upstairs room and the view is great and for lunch they might do something inexpensive. Remember to haggle a little. There is no place to stroll or linger i that part of Centerport though.

105 Harbor in Cold Spring Harbor. They have a small room and I hear good things about the place. They also have a $30 catering menu and are pretty close to the village. http://www.105harbor.com/3001.html

Crab Meadow Beach If you are a Hntington resident you can rent the little shelters at the beach and have an outdoor barbecue for the family?

          1. apropos of Crab Meadow Beach what about La Casa right on the beach-not great cuisine-wise but hey...

            1. Oh, and what about the very nice and right -on -the- water- in -Bayville- Pine Island Grill?

              1. Thanks for great suggestions. Danfords in Port Jeff was deemed too far but Louie's in Port Wash looks promising and they've been nice on the phone. Am taking the plunge on the Mother's Day brunch as a test. Was also directed to Fiddleheads in Oyster Bay. No view but a good downtown location and an accommodating owner. We had a tasty lunch there the other day -- delicious catfish -- and it's reasonable. Will check out Pine island and 105 Harbor. Much apprec.
