Bham - live Mudbugs

Is there any place that I can buy some live crawfish for a boil or do I have to order online?

Thanks

  1. The seafood market across from Mcdonalds on Greensprings has live and cooked crawfish, might want to call before and ask. Sextons in cahaba heights has them, but definitely call to reserve.

    1. Sexton's is a good choice. Also, check with Snapper Grabbers on U.S. 31 in Vestavia Hills (near city hall and the similarly named diner). I'm very loyal to Sexton's because it's not only great, it's near my house. But Snapper Grabbers is the best seafood market in town.

      1. Thanks for the heads up. Incidentally, Red Pearl had a sign up for live crawfish at $2.99 or $3.99/lb. They get new deliveries on Fridays or Saturdays. I need to call around and see how that price stacks up.

        2. just checked prices...$2.79 at sexton's and the place across from mcdonalds (fresh seafood and meat market). $1.89 at my favorite place in new orleans right now :(

Just get a friend to buy you a sack or two and toss them on the train- bet they would carry them to B'ham for less than $20...

Is that the name of the "place across from McDonald's" - Fresh Seafood and Meat Market?

Sexton's is not sure if they have enough for me to buy 20 lbs, no one answers at Super Oriental, and Snapper Grabbers only sells cooked crawfish. Looks like a trip out to Greensprings and West Valley at lunch is in order.

Just went to Gulf Seafood Market on Greensprings. The woman negotiated a little on the price for me. I think it will be $2.69/lb. The woman also said she could go to $2.49/lb for the 35+ lb sacks (I thought most were 40+ lbs?).

Sexton's called back and they would not have 20 lbs to spare (although they are a little less per pound).

We have used the market across from McD's twice now, ordering and cooking 80 lbs two years in a row. Delicious bugs, with some very large ones and few dead in the bags.

It's called Gulf Seafood Co. It's on Green Springs near the plaza with the county satellite office.

Thanks for posting the great information here. Was wondering the same thing - itching to do a crawfish dinner with some friends.
