Just noticed on my home page that tomorrow night from 8-9 local times is Earth Hour. Described on Wikipedia as follows:

Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of 29 March at 8PM local time to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions.

Hmmm.... A fun excuse for a candle-lit dinner? Would love to hear if anyone's planning a special menu.

What an excellent idea! I hadn't planned anything (other than turning off EVERYTHING and reading a good book with a nice glass of wine) but now I think I might! Tomorrow is Farmer's Market day so its perfect timing. Can't wait to hear everyone else's ideas.

Definitely want to do something with the herbs that are growing in our garden right now. Thyme, rosemary, oregano, mint. Thinking maybe a salad with local goat cheese, walnuts, pear. Mint infused tap water. Glass or two of wine an excellent idea! Trying to come up with a low carbon footprint dessert. Fruit salad is obvious -- but not super exciting... Maybe a macerated something or other...

Would love to come up with something fun for the little night-owl BBs as well. Guacamole high on the list... Hard to get much more energy conserving than that.

I ended up grilling balsamic marinated grass fed ribeyes served with an arugula salad and homemade lemon garlic vinaigrette created from my purchases at the farmers market that morning and some Rancho Gordo marrow beans cooked with garlic, rosemary and lemon juice. We sat outside and finished off a bottle of wine with nothing but the stars and the flicker of a candle. Thanks for the idea - we sure enjoyed our evening! :) I hope you enjoyed yours.

Yum! That sounds delicious. We had a super long day and wound up just grabbing a bite at the museum (hot-dogs for the little BBs, eggplant sandwich for me) and getting home just in time to fill the bath for the little ones. Then turned off all lights etc and bathed them by candle-light. Pretty cute actually -- but not the romantic evening I'd been imagining :)
