Good Greek food to try in Pompano

I went to the Gyro Cafe (not sure of the actual name) on Federal Highway South of Sample Road (on the west side) the other day and was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is in a strip mall and is very plain.

I just went in for a gyro but then I saw the Moussaka on the menu. My favorite. So, the gyro had to wait.

So glad I made that choice because this is the first place I have been to since I lived in Maryland that knows how to make a good bechamel sauce. The Moussaka and the Pasticcio (sp??) were both winners. I'm looking forward to their other dishes in the future.
.
In the meantime, I'll have to try that gyro.

  1. My wife and I have been there several times for lunch and the gyros are very good.

Went back for the gyro. It was ok, nothing special. I still prefer the Moussaka. Also tried the avoghlemono(sp?) soup but it was too watery for my taste,

    2. Next time keep going north a bit further, to the Georgetown Plaza or something like that on the east side of Federal Hwy. Kosta's is an authentic Greek place with fantastic food. Kosta himself is always there cooking enormous plates of Pasticcio, Moussaka, gyros, and lots of other wonderful stuff. It's pretty much a hole in the wall--but bigger than most--but you can't beat the food IMO

When was the last time you went to Kosta's? Has the service improved? We went for dinner our one and only time about 2 years ago and the service was just horrendous. We were among the lucky ones when we got our appetizer after waiting over an hour. Dinner arrived another hour later. Lots of other customers walked out but we hung in. The food was good but not good enough to make up for the bad service.

We're not surprised by bad service and will usually give a place a second try on the chance that they were having an off night but this was truly extraordinarily bad even by SoFla standards.

Kosta's restaurant is a true gem, the food is delicious and any service issues have been resolved.

      2. I have never been to Mykonos on SW 18th Street and Powerline in Boca but it's one of those popular restaurants so I guess it's ok. Anyone tried it?

I've been there twice and enjoyed the outdoor seating overlooking the water. Check out their early bird (or, maybe fixed price??) dinner selection. Everything was delightful and I'd go back again.

Do yourself a favor and skip Mykonos. We live right down the street and used to dine there several times a month for years. The last few times we went they changed the menu, went to a fixed price menu and the food quality is terrible!!! Completely different and nothing we ordered was fresh tasting. What a disappointment as they used to have good food.

i went there (Mykonos) a few weeks ago for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We had excellent food and service.

I guess since we have been going for years I am comparing it to the old way it was, it was noticeably different. The saganacki wasn't nearly as delicious and they did away with the family style dinner that had lobster tails, shrimps and clams that was TDF. The shrimps were smaller and not as fresh.

Glad you had a great meal, they have always been very nice there.

          2. Has anyone tried (dont laugh) My Big Fat Greek Restaurant on Griffin Road just east of 441? Worth the drive. Excellent food, reasonable prices and comfortable atmosphere. Everything is very authentic...best tzatziki around.

            1. I absolutely LOVE My Big Fat Greek Restaurant!!
I live in northwest broward, and its definitely worth the commute!! Their platters and every dish I've tried are amazing and I've always had great service. They have bellydancing on the weekends too :) Great family place.
