Adventurous Restaurant for Kids

Lillinonah Mar 27, 2008 09:49 AM

I have three kids who are very good eaters - we have done Greek, Ethopian, etc. Any restaurant you can suggest that is interesting and fun.

At Rosa Mexicana, kids can assist in preparing the guacamole.

Mine love Fondu, both the cheese and of course the chocolate.

Afaik, there is no restaurant called "Fondu," so I think princeofpork was referring to the preparation, fondue. Two restaurants where it's on the menu: La Bonne Soupe and Artisanal.

Thanks RGR. I was referring to the type of food not a specific place. However the place I do frequent with the kids is DIP on 3rd. We usually sit outside.

                    princeof pork,

DIP with your kids? I must say I'm surprised. It's in our nabe so I pass by very frequently and from the looks of the crowd it attracts, I would never have thought of it as family-friendly.

Ok, I must admit the food isn't great at this place, but I've been going there for the last 20 years, and it has become a sentimental place I now take my kids too. Milon Indian on 1st ave. & 6th st. Like I said it isn't good Indian food by a long shot, but the kids like all the lights, and if it is someones birthday they like the crazy birthday song they play. I kind of find it annoying, but they really enjoy it. Another favorite of the kids is Joe's Shanghai, New Green Bo, for their soup dumplings. They love soup dumplings. Not quite exotic, but our kids like these places. Just for reference our kids are 7 & 8.

Dim sum is a good suggestion, I think. The hustle and bustle of Golden Gate or Golden Unicorn are both great for cart service. And at Chinatown Brasserie the dumplings have little eyes on them which is cute (and for the record I like the food there though you will find much dissension about that elsewhere on the board).

Also, The Tea Box in the basement of Takishimaya has a great afternoon East West Tea for $18. It comes with an assortment of cookies, nuts, dried vegetables, finger sandwiches and a a small pot of tea.

For Italian, Mangia E Bevi is great with kids the atmosphere is fun. And I haven't been but I've heard Ninja New York is also an interesting, if pricey, experience for 'kids' of all ages.
