I have an appointment in Georgetown on Monday and thought I would check out Baked and Wired for the first time. (Scientifically I think it's important to compare their cupcakes to Georgetown Cupcake :) )

Their website says they offer savories and quiches but doesn't give any more details. Do they have sandwiches, salads, soups etc? Basically is this a place where I can grab a late-afternoon lunch or is it mostly sweets? If so, what's good?

stopped by yesterday to go head to head in battle of the cupcakes.

theirs was really, really - friend and I split the "birthday cake" one. you'll love it.

i didn't see any of the other food, but they DO have stuff and it's a cute space.

If you don't like their choices, SNAP is pretty much next door, with crepes, etc.

What a cliff hanger...."theirs was really, really"----really, really what? :)

Did you see what was listed in terms of food? Perhaps salads etc? (If I'm going to have a cupcake with my lunch, I should probably have a salad for my meal!)

Is SNAP a sit down spot? My back up plan was going to be Dean and Deluca but seeing that it's so gross out I need an in door place it eat.

Re SNAP: Be warned that their online menu is not an accurate reflection of what they necessarily have on any given day. As of late last week, there were a couple of sheets of paper over their old menu listing maybe 5 or 6 savory crepes, 5 or 6 sweet crepes, and some drinks. The menu had been scaled back significantly over before and over what's on their website; whether that's temporary or permanent, I don't know. I have always sensed that they have had management and inventory/supply issues, and I think perhaps these things have caught up to them. As for seating, it's generally outside in their rear patio; though I think they have a couple of 2-person tables inside tucked against a wall. Also, note that the actual crepes are pre-made, and not made to order, but filled to order; reason alone for me never to go there.

Re Baked & Wired: They do have quiches, though generally only in the morning I believe. For lunch, they have a couple of daily salad choices, which are generally good, though not inexpensive (though that basically characterizes all of Georgetown). Over the winter, they also had soups and chili, but I think they're done with that.

I also think Snap is a hit or miss-by day. When I went there the food was served on styrofoam plates, which was very annoying. Also, the crepes were a bit greasy. But, But, and But they do have Boba (Bubble Tea), which is decent for dc. There is some tables inside and a few outdoors. The indoor space has a grease/food cook smell. It is an old townhouse space-with lack of venilation. Take the Boba and leave!

My crepe was also served on a styrofoam plate, which I agree was a little annoying, considering I had to cut the crepe with a knife to eat it and kept thinking I was going to cut through the plate.

I have to admit I'm a sucker for crepes so this is probably why I liked it. Do I think it's a destination dining spot? No. Is it a nice alternative and good lunch spot with seating? Yes.

Btw, there seems to be a crepe restaurant opening up in Dupont on P St. Crepes A Go-Go or something along those lines. The place has looked empty forever and I figured it would never open but this weekend there were some guys in there doing some sort of work so perhaps it will open this summer.

I had quite a lovely afternoon checking out both Baked and Wired and SNAP. jds35 was correct about the weird taped up menu. That being said they had exactly what I wanted. I got a crepe with cheddar cheese and mushrooms, asparagus, and spinach. It was very good! I could literally have a variation of this for lunch almost every day. There were quite a few savory options that I wanted to try. When I was in there it was pretty dead, 1 or 2 people filtered in when I was just about finished but it's a nice little place that I just discovered and like quite a bit. The guy working there was friendly.

Then I walked down the street to Baked and Wired and treated myself to a delicious red velvet cupcake and a cup of chamomille and lavender tea. Really, really good! I'm actually a bit in love with this place. The people working there are very friendly and cool. The art is bright and interesting. And the cupcake was DELICIOUS! Perfectly moist cake with a great, almost tart cream cheese frosting. I limited myself to just 1 cupcake but there were at least 4 other flavors I wanted to try. I'll have to return :) Just a cool place to hang out, read a book, and enjoy a treat on a rainy day. The couch was quite comfy as well and they were playing good music :)

it's the anti-georgetown cupcake.
you can sit there and enjoy the space/treats and not stress about waiting in line.

for, what, 40 cents more for a cupcake, you can have a more enjoyable experience.

There actually seems to be wifi now. They ask that you make a purchase but there was sign in the first sit-down room (over the garbage can) that discussed that they prefer for you to make a purchase and also limit your access to an hour or so, so everyone gets the opportunity to use the internet. That last part confused me a little bit since I always thought as many people as possible could use wi-fi.

Perhaps you should give them a call to clarify their internet policy--but I'm pretty sure they have it.

too many people on a wi-fi connection makes it slow down. Or, as the Senior Senator from Alaska would say, it clogs the tubes.

Additionally, if someone comes in a buys a $1.50 cup of coffee and sits for 7 hours using the wireless, there is a possibility that there's limited room for other paying customers.

That is why Tryst (at least used to, anyway) shuts down their wi-fi on weekends. Not sure they still do, but did when I was a customer there,

I loved their sugar and butter crepe. They wrapped it up in a cute little cone. Didn't last long though---its a salad stall now.
