Tampico Ice Cream

Has anyone tried this brand of ice cream?

I see it in my local Mexican market and one of the flavors is coconut but I haven't tried it yet since I'm more familiar with Dreyers and Breyers and Ben & Jerrys, etc.

  1. I haven't seen this yet, but I have read about it: it's made by America's largest dairy company, Dean Foods, under license from Marbro, manufacturer of Tampico drinks. {A list of other Dean brands is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Foods }

    For my own part I am very fond of Haagen-Dazs' coconut milk-based sorbet and the similar (although meatier) Ciao Bella version. These are, of course, more expensive than Tampico. (But, if I saw their horchata ice cream at the store, I think I might just have to try it.)

      Thanks for the info, Pay. I'm going to try the coconut ice cream. Tampico has flavors like guava and papaya among others I saw in the Mexican Market near me, so I will test the coconut flavor first.

      Recently I tried Albertson's brand of pineapple/coconut ice cream but it had very, very little p/c flavor (few tiny pieces, either) and was really more like plain vanilla ice cream. A disappointment when I was craving those flavors.

    2. You should try Frio Divino Mexican ice cream. They are a small company with stores in Riverside and Santa Ana. They have a great Horchata ice cream. Not a big conglomorate like Dean foods, just great ice cream flavors. Riverside is at 6200 Van Buren Blvd. Riverside 92503
